Tasks and responsibilities
The assigned tasks and responsibilities related to technical support in the area of information management can include some of the following elements:
Information Management Specialist (AGROVOC)
• Support the overall AGROVOC content development strategy and maintenance, in particular, to improve discoverability and visibility of data and publications in line with the FAIR Principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets).
• Review existing concepts in AGROVOC based on the specialized are of expertise on demand, based on a systematic approach.
• Identify gaps in content and suggest new concepts.
• Understand the AGROVOC hierarchy and suggest placement for new and existing concepts.
• Research pertinent definitions of concepts including their reliable sources, such as FAO publications, FAOTerm, domain specific literature among others.
• Contribute to the AGROVOC Editorial Guidelines Task Force with guidance on relevant domain specific authorities to check new and existing terminology in AGROVOC.
• Support the AGROVOC Editorial Main Team at FAO in any additional task related to terminology.
• Contribute to drafting reports/working papers and to disseminating results.
Information Management Specialist (AGRIS)
• Implement and deliver training programs, online seminars and workshops in the context of access to scientific information resources in food and agriculture through AGRIS.
• Deliver capacity development activities to increase capacity and awareness on how to manage, access, exchange and use information more efficiently in the AGRIS Network.
• Provide strategic guidance and maintenance of agricultural bibliographic information services.
• Review and publish structured metadata about scientific literature in food and agricultural sciences.
• Support the inclusion of new OAI compliant data repositories into AGRIS.
• Promote the use of AGRIS.
• Contribute to drafting reports/working papers and to disseminating results.
Information Management Specialist (Research4Life)
• Ensure accuracy and currency of institution support database of Research4Life registered institutions. including contact details and other information points required for access to the Research4Life content
• Participate in the joint activities of the Research4Life programmes and collective partnership in the areas of user support and outreach, draft administrative procedures, adjust automated workflows and liase with relevant backups.
• Respond to assigned category of user inquiries from available prepared templates, using judgment as necessary when adjustment of the available prepared template is required.
• May engage in:
- integrating statistical reports from compiled usage data as well as compiling and redistributing information about Research4Life and Research4Life user experiences for the preparation of training, outreach services and promotional materials.
- troubleshooting access problem reports.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in library or information science, knowledge management, computer science, natural sciences, food and agricultural sciences, forestry, geography, ecology, social sciences, economics, fisheries, animal production and animal science or any field related to FAO's mandate;
• At least 5 years (for Level B) and 1 year (for Level C) of relevant experience in information management preferably in the food and agriculture sector or international development sector; and
• Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, or Russian for Consultants. Working knowledge of English is sufficient for PSA.SBS.

Technical/Functional Skills
• Knowledge of semantics and terminology in food and agriculture.
• Understanding of Knowledge Organization System (KOS).
• Experience in using standardized W3C recommendations and semantic web technologies, such as SKOS-XL and/or RDF, is considered an asset.
• Good understanding of information provision processes.
• Good understanding of the most common bibliographic metadata standards.
Selection Criteria
• Extent and relevance of academic qualifications.
• Extent and relevance of work in information and data management.
• Familiarity with performing cross-sectional tasks in multidisciplinary environments.
• Familiarity with customer relations management systems and/or helpdesk software tools.
• Demonstrates an analytical approach, attention to detail and precision in data entry.
• Capable of working under pressure, with the ability to deal with unexpected and urgent issues.
• Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, as well as gender sensitivity and cross-cultural competency.
• Quality of both oral and written communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely in English is considered a strong asset.
